The European Economic and Social Committee and the European Commission are co-hosting a major participatory event on social entrepreneurship.

Much more than a simple conference, this special Strasbourg event will be organised in an interactive way. For two days, the Palais des Congrès will become a gigantic forum for meeting and exchange where participants will be able to share their experiences, express their concerns, and also tell their success stories. Like bees, participants will gather information, tackle multiple problems and arrive at results that will be recorded within the marvellous Palais des Congrès beehive.

The EESC has an important role to play at this event, in so far as it has already tackled the question of social entrepreneurship in its opinions:

As part of the event, armed with this expertise, the EESC will facilitate a workshop on systemic change (8).

In the following months, the EESC will build on the results of the event and organise its follow-up.

European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is an EU advisory body comprising representatives of workers' and employers' organisations and other interest groups. It issues opinions on EU issues to the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, thus acting as a bridge between the EU's decision-making institutions and EU citizens.

What does the EESC do?

It gives the interest groups a formal say on EU legislative proposals. Its 3 key tasks are to:

  • ensure that EU policy and law are geared to economic and social conditions, by seeking a consensus that serves the common good
