Directorate-General Enterprise and Industry (ENTR)

On January 1st 2015 this directorate-general was replaced by DG Internal Market, Industry, Enterpreneurship and Small Enterprises i.

This Directorate-General strived for an EU policy that contributed to the competitiveness of European enterprises, employment and economic growth. Special attention was given to the needs of small or medium-sized companies.

The main tasks of the DG were:

  • removing barriers for entrepreneurs and encouraging potential entrepreneurs
  • to encourage innovation
  • to enhance the efficiency of the internal market
  • to improve the competitiveness of European industry on the world market within the boundaries of sustainable development
  • promoting a green economy
  • to improve Europe's role in space
