On a proposal from President Barroso i and Vice-President Šefcovic i, the Commission has today taken further decisions relating to its senior management staff. These decisions concern the appointment of a Deputy Director-General in the Directorate General for Regional Policy (DG i REGIO i), the appointment of a Director in the Directorate General Environment (DG ENV i) and the transfer of an official to a post of Director in the Directorate General Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN i).
-Mr Nicholas MARTYN, a British official who is currently Director of the DG REGIO Directorate in charge of Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia and Slovenia, was appointed to a post of Deputy Director-General in that DG. He will be responsible for the development, coordination and communication of Cohesion Policy.
-The second appointment decision concerns Mr Robin MIÈGE, a French official. He will become Director of the Directorate "Strategy" of DG ENV. Mr Miège is currently Head of Unit in that DG.
-The Commission furthermore decided to transfer Ms Anne BUCHER, at present Director of the Resources Directorate in Directorate General Information Society and Media (DG INFSO), to the function of Director in charge of structural reforms and competitiveness in DG ECFIN.
As with all such senior appointments, merit is the dominant criterion in these decisions. This is coupled with a search for the best possible match between Commissioners/Directors-General and its other Senior Managers. The Commission also strives to ensure an adequate balance of nationalities across its DGs and Services.
