The European Parliament is the EU's law-making body. It is directly elected by EU voters every 5 years.
What does the Parliament do?
The Parliament has 3 main roles:

-Passing EU laws, together with the Council of the EU, based on European Commission proposals
- 1.The Paul-Henri Spaak building houses the hemicycle for plenary sessions of the European Parliament in Brussels.
- 2.Sandra Kalniete was in 2004 lid van de Europese Commissie namens Letland. Daarvoor was zij minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, de eerste na de afscheiding van Rusland. Als medeoprichtster van het Letse Volksfront speelde zij een belangrijke rol in de onafhankelijkheid van Letland. Sinds 2014 is zij lid van het Europees Parlement (lid van de christendemocratische fractie).
- 3.Vladimír Bilčík is a member of the European Parliament since 2 July 2019 for "Independent", which is aligned with the European People's Party. Bilčík is elected on behalf of Slovakia.
- 4.Raphaël Glucksmann is a member of the European Parliament since 2 July 2019 for "Place publique", which is aligned with the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats. Glucksmann is elected on behalf of France.
- 5.Nathalie Loiseau is a member of the European Parliament since 2 July 2019 for "Liste Renaissance" as a non-attached member. Loiseau is elected on behalf of France.
