Description:

The course is designed on the online platform of CEPOL. The physical presence of participants will not be required, trainers will facilitate the course, give instructions and provide feedback online.

The overall objective is to improve efficiency and quality of forensic investigations by applying technical skills in seizing database systems as well as extracting and examining the information they provide.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand basics about database systems in general;
  • Query database systems using SQL;
  • Understand and know how to seize databases and evade potential pitfalls;
  • Access, query and examine seized database copies/backups back in the lab;
  • Be familiar with installation and usage of mySQL/mariaDB and SQLite.

The progress of learners will be monitored and regular feedback will be provided. Those learners who meet the certification criteria will have access to their electronic certificates.

Nomination

Altogether 25-30 places will be offered to law enforcement experts in this activity. We expect nominations from all the areas of Law Enforcement and Judiciary, representatives of the member states, fellow agencies and the course is also open and free for participants from partner, potential candidates and candidate countries. Target Audience:

This online course is directed towards technical experts from Law Enforcement dealing with databases in forensic investigations. Technical details and practical exercises about seizing and examining relational (SQL) databases will be covered.

CEPOL - European Police College brings together senior police officers across Europe with the aim to encourage cross-border cooperation in the fight against crime, maintenance of public security and law and order.

Established as an agency of the European Union (EU) in 2005, CEPOL Secretariat is based at Bramshill in the United Kingdom, approximately 70km from central London.
