Key-note speech by Mr Valdis Dombrovskis, Vice-President of the European Commission

The sovereign debt crisis has exposed the shortcomings in the construction of the Economic and Monetary Union. The institutional structure governing the euro could neither prevent nor fully resolve the crisis. It is high time that the common currency is embedded in a robust governance framework.

This conference will debate on what is needed to this end and how it can best be achieved by discussing the Five Presidents’ Report, the Commission reflection paper on EMU, Parliament’s future of Europe reports and beyond.

Interpretation will be provided in English and French.
