The news:

On 1 and 2 December, the Brussels Centre for Fine Arts (BOZAR) will host a special European Film Forum to celebrate the 25 years of the MEDIA programme, the EU programme supporting the audiovisual industries around Europe.

Vice-President Andrus Ansip and Commissioner Günther Oettinger will attend the event and meet with representatives from the TV, film and video games industries. Artists, innovators as well as policy-makers will engage in forward-looking discussions on the challenges and opportunities for the sector in the digital era. Works' visibility and accessibility across borders, audience development and financing, as well as the future of the MEDIA programme will be part of the themes addressed.

The background:

For 25 years, the MEDIA programme has been instrumental in supporting the continuous transformation of the audiovisual sector and in promoting collaboration across borders.

Since it was launched in 1991, the EU MEDIA programme has invested over €2.4 billion in European creativity and cultural diversity. It has supported the development of thousands of films in Europe and their international distribution, and is now increasingly positioning itself as key policy instrument of the EU to support a Digital Single Market.

The event:

The event will take place over two days at BOZAR, in Brussels. Participants will take part in conversations, masterclasses as well as in five different panels. These will feature prominent films directors such as Jaco Van Dormael, Jean-Pierre et Luc Dardenne, Tomasz Wasilewski as well as industry representatives such as Ignacio Perez Dolset (founder of Ilion Animation Studios), Dieter Kosslick (Director of Berlinale), Peter Aalbaek (co-founder of Zentropa), Andrea Zappia (CEO of Sky Italy) and Christophe Tardieu (Director of the Centre National du Cinéma - CNC). Screenings will be organised on both evenings.
