Shaping the Consumer Policy of the Future
Brussels, 1-2 June 2015
The European Consumer Summit is an annual forum gathering key European and international policy-makers and stakeholders, including representatives from the European Parliament, governments and national authorities, consumer organisations, academia and business. Over the years, the European Consumer Summit has become a valuable occasion to increase awareness on consumer policy and a key tool to mainstream consumer interests in EU policies.
This 2015 edition of the Consumer Summit will be dedicated to “Shaping the consumer policy of the future”. The focus will be on the most topical consumer policy issues which link with the political priorities of the European Commission led by President Juncker.
This year we will discuss issues around the Digital Single Market, the Energy Union, the importance of better implementation and enforcement of the law, especially in the digital environment, and the role of debt advice for consumers to tackle situations of over-indebtedness.
On the 1st June, the Summit will host plenary sessions dedicated to the analysis of the current political scenario through contributions provided by national and European high-level policy-makers. Moreover, the debate will be enriched by simultaneous seminars that will address the challenges for the protection of consumers' rights on four major themes:
-
-"Consumer Information in the Digital Single Market"
-
-"Energy Union - a New Deal for Energy Consumers"
-
-"Effective Enforcement in the Digital Environment"
-
-"Over-Indebtedness - the Role of Debt Advice"
On the 2nd June, the discussion will be focused on the future of consumer policy.
