Portuguese Presidency promotes conference on racial discrimination and intolerance

The Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union will be organising a High-Level Conference on Protection from Racial Discrimination and Related Intolerance on 20 April, at 08h30 (Lisbon time). The conference, in virtual format, will have contributions from the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet , the Vice-President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas i , the Portuguese Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Augusto Santos Silva, and the Portuguese Minister of Justice, Francisca Van Dunem, as well as from several other speakers and experts.

This event falls under the Trio Presidency and Portuguese Presidency programmes and is part of a series of initiatives related to the promotion of European democratic values, including the celebration of the “10th Anniversary of the Istanbul Convention: The state of play”, “Informal Dialogue on Integration”, and the High-Level Conference on the Rule of Law, which will take place in May. The conference will focus on the specific topics of combating racial discrimination, xenophobia, antisemitism and anti-gypsyism.
