How many languages do you speak, understand and hear others use in your local community?
Established by the European Commission and the Council of Europe in 2001, the European Day of Languages is an annual opportunity to:
-
-promote language learning
-
-celebrate the linguistic diversity and cultural heritage of the European community
This year, thousands of language teachers, school leaders and students across Europe and beyond will once again celebrate the European Day of Languages - join them!
How you can get involved
The European Commission’s translation service, the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT), has organised over 90 different language events across the European Union in collaboration with its Representations in EU Member States, (inter)national cultural institutes and other partners.
Language classes, games, talks, conferences, radio shows… you name it, and it'll be happening somewhere in the EU.

What else will be happening?
On 26 September 2019, the Second European Education Summit will take place in Brussels.
As well as focusing on the importance of the teaching profession and the contribution of teachers to realising the vision of creating a European Education Area by 2025, multilingualism will be a recurring theme at this year's Summit.
