With the 2019 European Elections just around the corner, the European Commission's Joint Research Centre - opens the doors of its Karlsruhe site to the European citizens and local communities.

The JRC Karlsruhe Site Open Day initiative seeks to showcase the JRC contribution in delivering a Europe that protects, empowers and defends. With this inspiring concept of the current EU Commission we would like to tell you what we do for safe, secure and better future.

Der Tag der offenen Tür der Gemeinsamen Forschungsstelle Karlsruhe zeigt den Beitrag des JRC zur Verwirklichung eines Europas, das schützt, stärkt und verteidigt. Das inspirierende Konzept der aktuellen EU-Kommission ist der Rahmen dessen, was das JRC für eine sichere und bessere Zukunft leistet.

Im Laufe des Tages werden Informations- und Bildungsaktivitäten angeboten.

This directorate-general provides the Commission with scientific advice and technical support in order to help formulate, implement and monitor a wide range of policies of the European Union. If requested it will advise the Council, Parliament and the member-states.

The Joint Research Centre (JRC) also conducts scientific research. In several centres throughout Europe a broad range of topics are researched, most of it focused on areas that respond to the major challenges that face the EU policy makers. Its main areas of research are nuclear energy, economics, sustainable development, security issues and crisis-management and developing common reference materials and measurements.
