Like the previous editions, the Industry Days 2019 will be a high-level conference featuring key political speakers and experts from various industrial spheres, as well as sessions organised by industrial stakeholders.

The event will be the occasion to review progress on the Commission's strategic approach to industrial policy and present actions to further develop industrial competitiveness in Europe.

There will also be an exhibition showcasing how the EU supports industrial modernisation through various programmes and initiatives, as well as a hackathon to develop solutions to industrial challenges.

The thematic areas selected for 2019 are industry and sustainability, industry and globalisation, and innovation and digitalisation.

This directorate-general (DG) is responsible for policies concerning the internal market, industry and small and medium enterprises. The directorate-general is also involved in the Copernicus and Galileo space programmes of the EU.

  • 1. 
    Jean-Claude Juncker (1945) is the president of the European Commission. Juncker is a member of the Luxembourg party Christian Social People's Party (CVP), which is aligned with the European People's Party. Juncker server as prime minister of Luxembourg for nearly twenty years.

    Jyrki Katainen (1971) is the Commission Vice-President and European Commissioner for jobs, growth, investment, and competitiveness in the Juncker Commission on behalf of Finland. Katainen is a member of the National Coalition Party (Kok), which is aligned with the European People's Party. Prior to his tenure in the European Commission he was prime minister of Finland.

    De Bulgaarse Kristalina Georgieva (1953) was in 2010-2017 lid van de Europese Commissie. Vanaf november 2014 was zij in de Commissie-Juncker vicevoorzitter en commissaris belast met begroting en personeelsbeleid. In de Commissie-Barroso (2010-2014) had zij de portefeuille humanitaire hulp. Mevrouw Georgieva werkte sinds 1993 bij de Wereldbank en was vicepresident van die bank. Zij is een deskundige op het gebied van duurzame ontwikkeling, was hoogleraar in Sofia en bekleedde wereldwijd gasthoogleraarschappen aan diverse universiteiten. Mevrouw Georgieva behoort tot de centrumrechtse GERB. Sinds 1 oktober 2019 is zij directeur van het IMF.

    Margrethe Vestager (1968) is the European Commissioner for the digital age and competition in the Commission-Von der Leyen on behalf of Denmark. She previously was commissioner for competition in the Juncker Commission. Vestager is a member of the Danish Social Liberal Party (DRV) which is aligned with the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Party (ALDE Party).

    Elżbieta Bieńkowska (1964) is the European Commissioner for internal market, industry, entrepreneurship, and SMEs in the Juncker Commission on behalf of Poland. Bieńkowska is a member of the Civic Platform (PO) which is aligned with the European People's Party. Prior to her tenure at the Commission she held several ministerial posts concerned with economic development.
