This year the #TranslatingEurope Forum will focus on translation tools and technologies.
In a translation environment now broadly computerized, translators need to be technically savvy as much as they need to be linguistically skilled in order to be up to market standards. Translation environment tools include a wide array of IT solutions meant to facilitate translation-related tasks: from terminology research to text alignment, from revision to quality control, without forgetting workflow management tools.
We will approach the theme of translation tools and technologies from different perspectives, from the role of public institutions to the viewpoint of end-users to the implications for translators' training.
Note: attendance to the Forum is free of charge, however participants are required to cover their own travel and accommodation expenses.
Overview
The #TranslatingEurope Forum is a yearly event organised by the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT) of the European Commission. It brings together translation stakeholders in Europe to discuss topics of common interest such as skills, employability, professionalisation, quality, tools, and to promote cooperation between stakeholders. Its aim is to increase the visibility of the profession and to stimulate dialogue and projects of common interest.
The #TranslatingEurope Forum target audience comprises all DGT stakeholders: from University students and teachers to freelance translators, from producers of translation tools to researchers, from translators' and translation employers' associations to Language Service Providers and language services of national administrations.
The #TranslatingEurope Forum is a place for dialogue and the programme will include presentations aiming at innovative ways to enhance this dialogue. DGT would like to bring the different communities together to discuss the technologies and their impact on the future of the profession and research in the field.
