The outcomes of the 19-20 March spring European Council were debated with European Council President Donald Tusk and Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker on Wednesday.

MEPs broadly welcomed the European Council’s commitment to building an EU energy union, but stressed that its success would depend on the ability of the EU and its member states to foster research and investment in renewables and new technologies and interconnections. Some voiced concerns about the situation in Greece, arguing that continuing the austerity policies would not help to overcome the economic crisis.
