The future is bright: use your power to change climate change

On Saturday 28 March, I will join millions of citizens across the globe in celebrating WWF's Earth Hour.

On Saturday, I will join millions of citizens across the globe in celebrating WWF's Earth Hour. We will switch off our lights for one hour to show that we care about the future of our planet and the pressing threat of climate change.

Hundreds of cities will participate, and some of the most famous landmarks of the world will go dark as well.

The visual impact of the Eiffel Tower, the Coliseum, Big Ben or the Brandenburg Gate going dark will be very impressive, but we have to look further. We are going dark for a bright future.

Earth Hour is a great initiative to show we are concerned about what's happening to our planet. And it is also a great opportunity for every single one of you to demand action.

The Paris climate conference this December will be decisive. All countries have to step up their efforts in our common fight against climate change. The time for empty words and hollow rhetoric has passed. Now is the time for legally binding and ambitious goals.

As we say in Spanish, 'No dejes para mañana lo que puedas hacer hoy' - don't leave to tomorrow, what you can do today.

That's why the EU was the first major economy to submit its contribution to the global deal very recently, including a legally binding commitment to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by at least 40% by 2030. It's time for other major economies to do the same.

I would like to count on your help and the help of the millions of people participating in Earth Hour to push for a successful Paris conference.

I am confident that if we work together we can achieve it.

So, when you switch off your lights on Saturday, remember that this year's Earth Hour is time to think about Paris and, more importantly, time to act. The engagement of every single one of us counts. The action of every single one of us will make the difference.
