Role of Dutch party think tanks on the agenda setting of political parties

In 2012 the Montesquieu Institutes facilitated a research project conducted by Arco Timmermans (research director¹ MI) and Gerrit Voerman (director Dutch Documentation Centre for Political Parties²).

Aim of this Dutch project was to analyze the role of Dutch political party think tanks on the agenda setting of the subsequent political party. To what extent are these think tanks able to exert their ideas and visions on the official party programme?

  Arco Timmermans (1964) is sinds 1 september 2013 Bijzonder Hoogleraar Public Affairs aan de Universiteit Leiden en is sinds 2014 als fellow verbonden aan het Montesquieu Instituut. Daarvoor was hij onderzoeksdirecteur van het Montesquieu Instituut en daarvoor was hij universitair docent bestuurswetenschappen in Delft, Enschede en Leiden. Hij werkte eerder als onderzoeker en docent bij het Europees Universitair Instituut in Florence. Sinds 2006 is de heer Timmermans nauw betrokken bij een internationaal onderzoek naar publieke en politieke agendavorming (politiek van de aandacht).

  The DNPP forms part of the University of Groningen. Its remit is to provide systematic and generally accessible documentation on Dutch political parties, with special reference to the extraparliamentary activities of the parties.
