Mr. José Manuel Barroso, European Commission President, will pay an official visit to Vilnius in Lithuania.

On 1 June, he will meet Mr. Andrius Kubilius, the Lithuanian Prime Minister at 17.00, and on 2 June he will meet the President of Lithuania, Dalia Grybauskaite at 07.30.

He will then attend, at 08.30, the Baltic Development Forum (BDF) Summit 2010, organised in conjunction with the government of Lithuania, and subtitled: 'An Agenda for Jobs, Investments and Sustainable Growth'.

The annual Forum of decision-makers, business, academia and media from the Baltic Sea Region and beyond will be organised back-to-back with the 8th Baltic Sea States Summit that will mark the end of the Lithuanian Presidency of Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS).

President Barroso will participate in a plenary session which will be held jointly between the BDF and the Baltic Sea States Summit on the topic: 'EU Strategy and Northern Dimension: Developing a Business Agenda for the Region'. He will speak alongside, amongst others, the Prime Minister of Finland Matti Vanhanen and Prime Minister of Estonia Andrus Ansip.

The Summits will explore questions related to sustainable economic growth, competitiveness, job creation and financial recovery. Energy and climate change, economic relations with the Eastern neighbors and Northern Dimension will be part of the Summit programme, and it will also include the most pressing issues on the agenda of businesses, including innovation, research and development and transport.
