Informeel akkoord tussen lidstaten en Europarlement over oprichting asielagentschap

DEN HAAG (PDC) - De lidstaten en het Europees Parlement¹ hebben een voorlopig akkoord bereikt over het oprichten van een Europees agentschap voor de uitvoering van asielbeleid. Het agentschap wordt een uitbreiding van het bestaande Europees Ondersteuningsbureau voor Asielzaken² (EASO), dat in 2010 werd opgericht. Het akkoord moet nog wel formeel bekrachtigd worden door de Raad³ en het Parlement.

Het EASO heeft nu als voornaamste taak het doen van onderzoek naar manieren om het asielbeleid van lidstaten beter op elkaar af te stemmen. Ook worden ambtenaren en beleidsmakers van de lidstaten door het EASO getraind. Door de uitbreiding kunnen onder meer experts van het op te richten agentschap naar de lidstaten worden gezonden als zij daartoe verzocht worden, om ook operationele ondersteuning te geven.

  The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) is an agency of the European Union that plays a key role in the development and practical application of the Common European Asylum System. It was established with the aim of enhancing cooperation between Member States om asylum policy, as well as directly supporting them in day-to-day asylum affairs through training, guidelines and, in emergencies, teams of experts. The agency also gathers information on asylum affairs in the Member States and in third countries.

  In the Council, government ministers from each EU country meet to discuss, amend and adopt laws, and coordinate policies. The ministers have the authority to commit their governments to the actions agreed on in the meetings.
  Together with the European Parliament , the Council is the main decision-making body of the EU.
