High-level Conference on Green Mining

As part of the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the High-level Conference on Green Mining will be held on Wednesday, 5 May at 09h10 (Lisbon time).

Participating in this international conference will be Portuguese and international entities, businesses, representatives of the European Commission and associations of relevance in the mining sector; they will debate the principles of green mining and the contribution of the mining industry to decarbonisation, while highlighting the resilience and innovation of the international mineral exploration sector.

The aim will also be to provide a forum for discussing and contributing to the conception, promotion and evaluation of public policies and activities in the field of geological resources, in a perspective based on sustainable development.

The Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, and the European Comission Vice-President for Interinstitutional Relations and Foresight, Maroš Šefčovič, will take part in the opening session. The conference will be closed by the Portuguese Deputy Minister and Secretary of State for Energy, João Galamba. See conference programme and register for the event here.
