During the opening session of the High-Level Conference on “Hydrogen and Society - Bridging the gaps”, held today, 7 April, the European Commissioner for Energy, Kadri Simson i, highlighted the existence of five fundamental aspects in the construction of a hydrogen market in Europe: strategy, implementation, funding, sustained investment in R&D and the international dimension.

Kadri Simson also revealed the positive contribution of Portugal, which she presented as an example for the energy system in Europe. The ambition for the European Union, she said, is to increase the availability of renewable electricity, less dependence on fossil fuels, a strong hydrogen value chain and new industrial and technological opportunities, combined with the creation of new jobs and a strong European market for hydrogen.

The other two conference panels in the morning discussed European policies and strategies for the creation of a hydrogen market, as well as the challenges and opportunities in this sector.
