On 8 October, EU home affairs ministers will meet for a videoconference, held under the auspices of the German Presidency of the Council of the EU. Germany's Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer will lead the meeting.

The EU is seeking to develop an effective, humane and secure European migration policy. At this meeting, home affairs ministers will discuss proposals for the new Migration and Asylum Package that was presented by the European Commission on 23 September. The current situation and initiatives on cooperation with non-EU countries on migration issues will also be on the agenda - with a particular focus on the situation in North Africa and the West Balkans.
