EU transport ministers will come together for an informal exchange by videoconference under the auspices of Germany's EU Council Presidency on 8 October. Federal transport minister Andreas Scheuer will chair the virtual meeting.

The focus of the informal exchange is a discussion about the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the freight sector in Europe. As early as March 2020, EU member states agreed upon the need for a coordinated approach to support the transport sector which has been heavily impacted as a result of the economic slowdown in the past months.

During the online exchange, ministers will discuss a pandemic contingency plan for the European freight sector to better position it for future pandemics. In addition, the European Commission will brief ministers about its amended proposal for the initiative for a more unified European airspace, known as the Single European Sky initiative.
