On 6 July, Franziska Giffey, Federal Minister for Family Affairs, signed the Trio Presidency Declaration on Gender Equality alongside her Portuguese and Slovenian counterparts Mariana Vieira da Silva and Janez Cigler Kralj. The document was officially handed over today.

In the joint Declaration, the three EU i states commit to cooperate closely on gender equality. The document will guide the work of the Trio in the field of gender equality in 2020/2021. The joint goals outlined in the Declaration include mitigating the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on women, expanding the EU-wide support system for women affected by violence, reducing the gender pay gap in Europe and transforming gender stereotypes and roles.

The Declaration also covers the three countries’ respective priorities. For the German Council Presidency, these are establishing equality between women and men in the world of work and protecting women against violence.

The Trio partners’ social affairs attachés responsible for gender equality officially presented the Declaration to the cabinet of Equality Commissioner Helena Dalli on 23 July, taking the opportunity to spotlight the Trio’s goals.
