Code4Green: European Environmental Data Hackathon

The event, which will be live-streamed today from 13:00, shall produce creative, data-driven solutions and applications for challenges such as the European energy transition and biodiversity.

At the start of Germany’s EU i Council Presidency, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety is hosting a European hackathon on environmental data with participants from all over Europe. A high-level jury will select the best ideas, which will then be promoted through monitoring and financial support. The event which was kicked off by State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth and EU Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius i on Friday, 10 July, will take place in a virtual format.

The decisive part of the hackathon on Sunday, 12 July, can be followed on livestream from 13:00 to 16:00. The pitches of the teams (13:00 to 14:00) will be followed by a panel discussion (14:00 to 15:30) with German Environment Minister Svenja Schulze, EEA i Director Hans Bruyninckx, President of the Italian Innovation Fund Francesca Bria and venture capitalist Lukasz Gadowski. They will discuss how Europe can shape a unique path towards a sustainable digitalisation. The event will be rounded off with the award ceremony for the winning teams, presented by the minister (15:30 - 16:00).
