Read-out of the videoconference between President von der Leyen and the President of Slovenia, Borut Pahor

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the President of Slovenia Borut Pahor discussed through videoconference, on 18 March, the European response to the coronavirus crisis and other matters of joint interest.

As the virus continues to spread in the EU and globally, President von der Leyen sent wishes of good health to the Slovenian people.

Both presidents emphasised the need to work closely together on the many dimensions of this crisis.

They stressed the importance of coordinating on border measures and of finding common european solution to the challenges we face. President Pahor welcomed the guidelines on border measures proposed by the Commission, to protect public health and enable the transport of goods and services in the EU.

He further welcomed the Commission's proposal for a temporary travel restriction to the EU and the Schengen i space, which Slovenia will apply.

Both underlined the importance of joint procurement of medical and personal protective equipment. Slovenia takes part in the calls for tender coordinated by the Commission on behalf of Member States. These should facilitate the procurement of essential equipment such as protection masks, respiratory ventilators or testing kits.
