On 23 April 2020, EUROCITIES, Julie’s Bicycle and the ROCK project invite you to a one-day event in Brussels to discuss how cities can reduce the environmental impact of cultural events. Cities are uniquely placed in the race against climate change, and culture can build resilience for change to come and lead cities to a more sustainable future. Now is the time!

At the event, we will:

  • Promote what cities are already doing to adapt culture to projected climatic changes, raise awareness about sustainability issues in the cultural and creative sector and showcase how culture contributes to the European Green Deal and Sustainable Development Goals;
  • Launch the ROCK sustainable events guidelines on how cities can reduce the environmental impact of cultural events with examples from European and world cities;
  • Train cities and stakeholders with practical recommendations on how to hold sustainable cultural events, following the structure and principles of the ROCK sustainable events guidelines.

The cities of Bologna, Edinburgh, Leeuwarden, Nantes and many more already act locally and will share local examples that can be replicated in other local urban contexts. To connect our work to EU work, we will welcome MEP Laurence Farreng, member of the Committee on Culture and Education of the European Parliament and rapporteur of a report on how to reduce the environmental impact of the European funding programmes for culture and creativity and how these programmes can support the European Green Deal agenda.
