Third workshop on the big data and B2B platforms study postponed

Published on: 27/02/2020

On 22 and 23 June 2020, the European Commission and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EASME) are organising the third round of workshops related to 2 pilots on the Big Data and B2B platforms study. Due to the spread of the Corona virus across Europe, we have postponed the workshops from March to June, when they will take place online.

Event date: 22/06/2020 to 23/06/2020

Location: Online

Registration: Register for the workshop and see the agenda

Pilot on fair and equal data sharing for cooperative, connected and automated mobility

The pilot aims to improve fair and undistorted competition by equal access to in-vehicle data for all market participants (in particular SMEs), through a shared data platform. The third workshop on this pilot will take place on 23 June 2020.

During the design phase, the pilot focused on identifying and addressing the main issues arising from the implementation of the Shared Server architecture. During the current implementation phase, the study will consolidate the insights gathered from the previous design stage, for the pilot's final setup. We will present the pilot's progress at the third workshop on automotive.

Pilot on a high-quality, diabetes-related data repository by using the latest technologies and big data breakthroughs

The pilot's end goal is to test and further develop a federated database infrastructure based on FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable) that can connect data from different research sources. We will extract and exploit data from type2 diabetes (T2D) datasets. Using this, we will develop a comprehensive biomarker package that quantifies the relevant processes of the metabolic flexibility system and determines an individual’s metabolic health trajectory as well as their predisposition to certain conditions. We will couple the T2D data with real-world evidence (RWE) data from multiple sources outside of typical clinical research. Specific use cases will show the added value of the desired infrastructure. The third workshop on this pilot will take place on 22 June 2020.

During the design phase, the pilot focused on setting-up structural characteristics for the infrastructure and selected two use cases for implementation. The pilot is building on this during the implementation phase. During this phase, we will implement the use cases, further develop ontologies and essential data, and apply the previously established FAIR principles. We will present and discuss the pilot's progress at the third workshop on healthcare.

Background

The study will deliver the following final reports by autumn 2020

  • two reports on the design, organisation, rollout, outcomes and impact of the two pilots
  • two reports on potential market deficiencies and regulatory barriers, including a common industry-led position (one for healthcare and one for automotive)
  • a report with recommendations for EU and national policymakers and an action plan to create shared EU-wide in-vehicle data platforms
  • a report with recommendations for EU and national policymakers and an action plan to accelerate the creation of unified EU-wide diabetes-related data platform
  • a report informing policy actions on skills for the automotive sector
  • market analysis on the potential of European B2B platforms and unified European diabetes-related data sets for healthcare

A final conference will take place in November 2020 (date to be confirmed) in Brussels, to present the study's findings.
