The Salon international de l'agriculture (SIA) is taking place from 22 February to 1 March 2020 in Paris, France.
The department of agriculture and rural development and the department of health and food safety will be present with a stand in Hall 1 (stand 1 M 003). The theme of the stand is "from farm to fork, sustainable food for our future"!
Most of the food we consume every day comes from farms and fish farms: from milk, bread, and honey to seafood, meat, fruit, and vegetables.
Europe's 22 million farmers and farm workers play a unique role in our society. They produce healthy, high-quality food for the 446 million citizens of the European Union while ensuring food safety and traceability, as well as animal welfare, the environment, climate change and sustaining rural areas.
In addition, agriculture and the agri-food industry is a major player in the European economy, providing 40 million jobs. Farmers therefore play a vital role in our economy and society. Today they are entrepreneurs who use modern farming techniques and diversify their activities. In the years to come, their contribution to the Green Deal for Europe will be crucial, with the main objective of making Europe climate neutral by 2050!
The ambition of the EU’s common agricultural policy is to support and accompany farmers in achieving this goal.
The European Union promotes digital innovation in agriculture and rural areas and invests in modern technologies to combat climate change at the level of individual farms and the entire rural community.
The European Union also ensures that its citizens can benefit from the safest food in the world, produced in a sustainable way. To maintain this objective, incident prevention and vigilance are permanent and food safety rules are strictly applied by all relevant actors and authorities.
