About

This event has reached its full capacity and we are not in a position to accept any additional registrations. Please keep an eye on our website for upcoming events. Thank you and stay tuned!

‘What the Chiefs Say’ events are exclusive, small, informal and off the record regular roundtable debates which offer the opportunity to engage directly and get to the heart of a specific policy issue with a senior decisionmaker from a European institution or government.

These events are geared to be in tune with the interest of our members and are strategically linked to emerging trends within the EU sphere. It allows us to focus on the opportunities and identify the possible challenges in the European Commission’s own agenda and provides the possibility to go into greater depth and discuss the ‘nitty-gritty’ of policies affecting Europe in the next five years and beyond. Over the course of 2020 the monthly ‘What the chief says’ series will be inextricably linked with the new EU mandate.

The ‘What the Chief Say’ series (WTCS) conversations are held under Chatham House rules. The speaker gives a short, 10-minute introduction to the topic under discussion, after which the floor is open to any possible comments or questions which may be posed to the speaker for the remaining 50 minutes.

Our events include photos, audio and video recording that we might use for promotional purposes. By registering, you give your permission to use your image. Should you have any questions, please contact us.

Debate - The European Green Deal: target 2050? Expand Debate - The European Green Deal: target 2050?

With COP 25 in Madrid failing to ramp up the international climate ambition and the new European Green Deal having to transform itself from an ideal vision into approximately 50 concrete actions in less than 100 days, the EU is at a pivotal moment. The need for strengthened EU leadership on climate will be essential as the Paris Agreement will officially enter into force in 2020. As the road to COP 26 in Glasgow becomes clearer, a critical window of opportunity is closing fast as our global carbon budget is exponentially shrinking. The new European Green Deal will have to bring all representatives and especially private sector stakeholders together to reach the targets set out for 2050.

  • Can the EU ramp up the necessary ambition and leadership amongst member states to achieve the new European Green Deal?
  • How can the EU become a global leader in climate action with the Green Deal and contribute to the success of COP26?
  • How can industry help the Green Deal to succeed and what is expected from them to achieve the targets set out for 2050?
