ITRE/IMCO/ECON hearing of Vice-President designate Margrethe Vestager

The Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) participated as an associated committee in the hearing of Vice-President designate for Europe Fit for Digital Age, Margrethe Vestager, that took place on Tuesday, 8 October 2019 from 14:30 to 17:30.

Ms Vestager's portfolio envisages ensuring that the work on a European approach on artificial intelligence includes its human and ethical implications. JURI is the only committee responsible for ethical aspects of new technologies and has led the Parliament's work on this topic since last term. The Executive Vice-President is also to be in charge of upgrading the liability rules for digital platforms, services and products as part of a new Digital Services Act, which also largely falls within the JURI remit.
