The newly-elected MEPs met for their first plenary session on 2-4 July, during which they elected a new president and voted on the size of the parliamentary committees.
Parliament chose Italian Social Democrat David Sassoli as its president on Wednesday for a term of two-and-a-half years.

MEPs also elected the 14 vice-presidents , who can fill in for the president, and five quaestors, who deal with administrative matters affecting members.
Parliament also decided on how many members will be in each of its committees, ranging from 25 in the legal affairs committee to 76 in the environment, public health and food committee. Meanwhile, appointments to committees have been made by the Parliament’s seven political groups and non-attached members.
On Thursday, MEPs debated the results of the EU summits that took place in June and July, which were about who should get the EU's top jobs.
