Description:

The course aims to enable participants to achieve a Common European Framework of References for languages (CEFR) to the level of B1 - independent user, in Police English Language.

The main content of the course will be presented in the virtual learning environment where participants will engage in activities extending and practising their Police English Language skills.

The duration of the course is eight weeks. The curriculum content will focus on online self-paced, as well as, trainer guided activities and related assignments in the following subject knowledge areas:

  • English Police Station, Equipment and Officers
  • Money Laundering
  • Cyber crime
  • Europol
  • Schengen
  • Counterterrorism
  • EU Policy Cycle
  • Joint Investigation Teams
  • Immigration

Reading, speaking, writing and listening skills will be practiced in the context of the abovementioned topics. Grammar teaching activities and official reports writing related to police specific communication will also be incorporated in the course. The course will be task-based and it will use a varied teaching methodology which will include:

  • Self-paced activities
  • Teacher-learner and peer-to-peer interactions
  • Asynchronous (e.g. forum) as well as synchronous communication (e.g. chat, weekly online meetings)

The course ends with the submission of an exit test that is assessing the actual knowledge level of the learner based on the CEFR requirements. The test will assess all the four skill areas (speaking, reading, listening, and writing) plus the special police vocabulary. After the test a certificate will be issued.

The online course offers 100 seats altogether.

Target Audience:

Police officers and law enforcement staff from EU Member States with minimum 3 years of experience whose work position and responsibilities require the use of English Language in the framework of cross border police cooperation.

European Police College (CEPOL)

CEPOL - European Police College brings together senior police officers across Europe with the aim to encourage cross-border cooperation in the fight against crime, maintenance of public security and law and order.

Established as an agency of the European Union (EU) in 2005, CEPOL Secretariat is based at Bramshill in the United Kingdom, approximately 70km from central London. CEPOL organises between 60-100 courses, seminars and conferences per year. The implementation of the activities takes place at the National Police Training colleges of the Member States and the activities cover a wide-range of topics. CEPOL has an annual budget of 8.341 million euro (2011).
