The Clingendael Institute and the Netherlands Society for International Affairs (NGIZ) are honoured to invite you to a presentation of the report of the EU-Russia Experts Network (EUREN): “Selective Engagement between the EU and Russia”.

The report is the outcome of a series of debates between think tank experts from the EU and Russia and its conclusions and recommendations will be presented by two of its active participants:

  • Tony van der Togt (Clingendael Associate Fellow) and
  • Dr Tatiana Romanova (Assistant professor, St Petersburg State University and head of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence).

The two presentations will be followed by a discussion, to be moderated by:

Prof. Dr André Gerrits (Professor of International Studies and Global Politics, Leiden University).

The EU-sponsored dialogue between experts of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) and think tanks from EU member states has tried to envisage realistic options for selective engagement, which could be acceptable for both sides, even as the present confrontation (especially in the contested neighbourhood) remains unresolved. The basic idea is to keep channels of communication open and prevent further estrangement and undermining of trust. For the longer term, it keeps the options open for building “islands of cooperation”.

The programme will start at 17.00 hrs (welcome as from 16.30 hrs) and will last till 18.30 hrs, to be followed by drinks.

The EUREN-report will be available by the end of September and a link will be provided in a confirmation e-mail to those who will have registered.

Entrance will be free of charge, but please note that you will have to register before Monday 8th October.
