Advisory Committee on Vocational Training (ACVT)

Details

Abbreviation: ACVT

Policy Area: Education

Lead DG: DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion

Type: Formal

Scope: Broad

Mission: Since its creation in 1963, and in accordance with Article 2 of Council Decision 2004/223/CE of 26 February 2004, the Advisory Committee on Vocational Training (ACVT) has the task of assisting the Commission in implementing a Union vocational education and training policy. Vocational Education and Training (VET) - both initial and continuing - has an important role in equipping young people and adults with the knowledge, skills and competences to thrive in the evolving labour market and society, including the green and digital transitions. It is embedded in a broader framework that includes elements such as graduate tracking systems, skills anticipation mechanisms, career guidance, recognition of the learning outcomes of non-formal and informal learning, etc. The ACVT’s remit thus goes well beyond VET and apprenticeships in the narrow sense, touching also on adult learning, skills and qualifications more generally.

Task: Assist the Commission in relation to the implementation of existing Union legislation, programmes and policies
