Mission: The Commission expert group on climate change policy (CCEG) shall assist DG Clima in the implementation of its policies and in the preparation of delegated acts, especially in relation to the legislation adopted for the implementation of the Paris Agreement. In addition, the CCEG may assist DG Clima in the preparation of legislative proposals and policy initiatives, as well as serve as a forum for coordination and exchange of views in the policy area of climate with the Member States.

Other: The CCEG shall assist DG Clima in the implementation of its policies and the preparation of delegated acts, in relation to the legislation adopted for the implementation of the Paris Agreement, i.e. Directive 2003/87/EC (EU Emissions Trading System - ETS) and the impending Effort Sharing Regulation, and to Regulation 525/2013 (Monitoring Mechanism Regulation - MMR). In addition, the CCEG may assist DG Clima in the preparation of legislative proposals and policy initiatives, as well as serve as a forum for coordination and exchange of views in the policy area of climate with the Member States and assist DG Clima in the preparation of other delegated acts which may need to be adopted in the climate policy area in the future on topics not appropriately covered by other expert groups. For the preparation of each delegated act the CCEG will meet in different formations, composed of the relevant experts in each case. Under the Commission proposal on the governance of the Energy Union, it is foreseen to merge the MMR with other governance provisions. Following the adoption of the upcoming Regulation on governance of the Energy Union, the set-up of the expert group with regard to MMR may have to be reviewed.
