Commission discusses future EU space policy - Main contents
EU i space policy: Improving people's lives and boosting Europe's competitiveness
On 23 and 24 January, the Commission will debate with decision-makers, CEOs, scientists and civil society how EU space policy and related EU space programmes Copernicus, Galileo and EGNOS can contribute further to EU priorities such as: a Europe that protect and defends, a strong industrial base that generates economic growth, a connected society and economy, safe and sustainable mobility, air quality and climate policy.
The conference will also be an opportunity to explore how to achieve these objectives under the next Multiannual Financial Framework. High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini i, and Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elżbieta Bieńkowska i will open the conference, and will then be followed by Vice-President for the Energy Union Maros Šefčovič, and Commissioners Günther Oettinger i (Budget and Human Resources), Violeta Bulc i (Transport), and Mariya Gabriel i (Digital Economy and Society) allowing to cover all the different angles.
At the conference, the Commission will also announce a new EIC Horizon Prize which will offer €10 million for developing a low-cost and technologically non-dependent European solution for launching light satellites into Low-Earth Orbit. In the side-lines of the conference, the High Representative/Vice-President will attend the signature of the Administrative Agreement between SatCen and the European Space Agency to step up collaboration to improve synergies between space and security activities.
The 10th Conference on European Space Policy builds on the Space Strategy for Europe and follows President Juncker's recent visit to the European Space Port in Kourou.
