The Vulnerability Assessment Network (VAN) was established in 2016 in accordance to Article 13 of the Regulation on European Border and Coast Guard Agency. VAN connects Frontex with member states’ border control, border guard and analysis experts.

VAN provides the framework for assessing vulnerability by developing methodology and evaluation criteria. The aim of the vulnerability assessment is to assess the capacity and readiness of member states to face present and future threats, as well as challenges at their external borders.

VAN meetings involve representatives from all member states.
