Who will be the next president of France? Marine Le Pen or Emmanuel Macron? After an abnormal and unpredictable campaign and a very close first round of elections, a divided France has to chose between Le Pen and Macron. The traditional parties are definitely expelled; new parties have won the vote of the French people. How does the future of France look like and what is the impact of the elections on Europe?

A couple of days before the second and most important round of elections in France, De Balie speaks with journalist Renaud Girard. Renaud is a journalist for the French newspaper Le Figaro and a longtime foreign affairs correspondent. He wrote several books about French geopolitics. We'll talk with him about a France that has to cope with the impact of two terrorist attacks, that struggles with an identity crisis, and knows a high percentage of unemployment. What future will the French people choose on May 7th? What are the geopolitical consequences of the election results? And to what degree will the election results be a turning-point for the rest of Europe?
