In this Citizens' Dialogue Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and Slovenian Prime Minister Miro Cerar will discuss with over 400 participants what opportunities the EU brings to young people, the challenges they’re facing, and how the Union should develop in the coming years.

Watch the event live on Facebookor on the Commission's Audiovisual Portal!

The motto of the Citizens' Dialogues "It's about Europe. It's about you" has a meaning particularly for young people: How to benefit from the possibilities to study, travel, work and be active across the Member States, and how to defend the right to move? What are member states and EU doing to effectively tackle youth unemployment? How to address together the challenges of our time? How to develop the idea of founding fathers that we are united in all our diversity? What does it mean to the young Europeans? President Juncker and Prime Minister Cerar will listen what youth has to say.

Make your voice heard! The Citizens' Dialogue gives you the chance to ask your questions and get first hand replies from the President of the European Commission and the Prime Minister. We’re happy to announce the Festival Hall is full, but you can follow us in the live webstream and participate in the Dialogue with the Twitter hashtag #EUdialogues. The original stream will also be available via Facebook live.

1.

European Commission (EC)

The European Commission is the executive body of the EU and runs its day-to-day business. It is made up of the College of Commissioners, 27 European Commissioners, one for each member state, who are each responsible for one or several policy areas. In addition, the 'Commission' also refers to the entire administrative body that supports the Commissioners, consisting of the Directorates-General and the Services.

The European Commission is the sole EU body capable of proposing new legislation. The Commission also performs an oversight function, monitoring whether European legislation is properly implemented in the member states. In the event of non-compliance, the Commission can coerce a member state to comply by starting a legal procedure at the European Court of Justice.
