Europe’s Defense and Security Policy in difficult times

Europe Direct Centre The Hague, ProDemos and the Municipality of The Hague invite you for an evening on Europe’s defense and security policy. Our guests will discuss questions related to Europe’s role in solving global challenges.

Is the ‘European project’ still capable and the right way forward:

...when it needs Turkey to prevent thousands of refugees from entering its borders?

...when in our midst terrorists are planning and executing attacks?

...when in Eastern Europe Russia’s conflict with the Ukraine endures?

Which challenges are the European Union and its member states facing and what are Europe’s answers to these challenges? Will this generation see a failure of the European project or will new unity be found?

Speakers

These and other issues will be discussed with:

  • Kati Piri, Dutch Member of the European Parliament for the Labour Party, European parliament’s rapporteur for Turkey
  • Arend Jan Boekestijn, Lecturer International Relations at Utrecht University, Foreign Policy Columnist magazine Elsevier

Moderator is Marcel Bamberg.
