On 12 March, Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska participated in the international real estate forum MIPIM in Cannes.

She set the political framework at a high-level roundtable on "How to up-scale the demand and supply of energy efficiency investments for buildings?" whose members included a representative from the Energy Efficiency Financial Institution Group (EEFIG), leading fund managers and Director-General Ristori (DG ENER). She presented the prestigious MIPIM award for the "best urban regeneration project". Commissioner Oettinger, in charge of the digital economy and society, also took part in the fair.

The Commissioner was well supported by DG Growth in partnership with DG Connect. The two DG's jointly organised a high-level conference on "Public procurement: stimulating digitalisation, sustainability and investment". At the Commission's joint exhibition stand - another Growth/Connect collaboration - visitors could listen to any of five presentations on digitalising the construction sector, resource efficiency opportunities in the building sector, public procurement of innovation, smart cities driving innovation and age-adapted smart housing.

MIPIM (Marché International des Professionnels de l’Immobilier) brings together 21.000 people from investors, project promoters, architects, construction companies to local authorities and mayors of main European cities. It is also a 19,400 m2 property exhibition.
