EU wants to boost powers of energy oversight agency

The European Commission wants to give an EU energy agency more powers to remove barriers in the bloc's internal market, according to a leaked draft of a strategy paper.

Energy commissioners Maros Sefcovic² and Miguel Arias Canete³ are set to unveil a “framework strategy” for the Energy Union on Wednesday (25 February).

He was Commissionar for the energy union in the Juncker Commission and in the Barroso II Commission Sefčovič held the post of institutional affairs. Sefčovič is a member of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), which is aligned with the European People's Party.

  Miguel Arias Cañete (1950) is the European Commissioner for climate action and energy in the Juncker Commission on behalf of Spain. Cañete is a member of the People's Party (PP), which is aligned with the European People's Party. He served in various ministerial posts before his tenure as Commissioner.
