The Hague, 24 November 2014

Eurojust is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Frederic Baab, the new National Member for France, as of October 2014.

A specialist in international judicial cooperation, Mr Baab began his judicial career as Deputy Public Prosecutor and then Investigating Judge, and joined the Ministry of Justice in 2001, specialising in the follow-up of negotiations with the European Union, before being named French Liaison Magistrate to the German Ministry of Justice in Berlin in 2003. In 2007, Mr Baab was appointed to the French Permanent Representation in Brussels in preparation for the French Presidency of the European Union, charged with negotiating the Council Decision on the strengthening of Eurojust of 2008. He served then as President of the Court of First Instance of Dunkerque for 3 years.

Mr Baab rejoined the Ministry of Justice in 2013 as diplomatic counsellor in the Cabinet of HE Christiane Taubira, the Minister of Justice, until his appointment to Eurojust.

Mr Baab said the following concerning his appointment as National Member: ‘I am very pleased to join the very busy French Desk at Eurojust, an agency I have worked with for many years in my capacity as Liaison Magistrate and within the French Permanent Representation in Brussels. I look forward to the challenges ahead. I am fortunate to have a great team and valued, experienced colleagues.’

Mr Baab replaces Sylvie Petit-Leclair, who was appointed Prosecutor General of the Court of Appeal of Caen.

In 2013, the French Desk opened 45 multilateral cases (involving more than two Member States), more than double the number of all other Member States individually. The French Desk also organised 45 bilateral coordination meetings, more than double the number of all other Member States individually. The French Desk also organised the largest number of coordination centres in 2013.
