C. (Caroline) de Gruyter - Main contents

Caroline de Gruyter (1963) is Europe correspondent for NRC Handelsblad, one of the leading newspapers in the Netherlands. She is currently based in Vienna, having previously been stationed in Brussels (twice), Geneva, the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem. De Gruyter is lauded as an expert on European affairs and her insightful contributions have won her two major Dutch prizes on journalistic writing as well as a silver medal in the Prix du Mérite Européen in 2016.

Next to her journalistic work De Gruyter regularly contributes to Carnegie Europe and is a member of the European Council on Foreign Relations. She has written three books; each a reflection on the society and realities of everyday of the city she was stationed at the time.
