Meeting

On 27 November Nicolas Hulot will meet EESC President Henri Malosse and European civil society representatives at the EESC headquarters in Brussels.

Nicolas Hulot, well known in France for his documentary show "Ushuaïa" which focuses on nature and the environment, is the head of the Nicolas Hulot Foundation for Nature and Mankind, a leading French environmental NGO aiming at encouraging changing consumption patterns throughout society (citizens, policy-makers, business people…).

Appointed as Special Envoy of the President of the French Republic for Protecting the Planet in December 2012, Nicolas Hulot will meet EESC's members to discuss topics of common interest:

  • Civil society involvement for the success of COP21 in Paris 2015
  • Implementing European Energy Dialogue
  • Promoting the Green Economy
  • The post-2015 framework for poverty eradication and sustainability

European Economic and Social Committee (EESC)

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is an EU advisory body comprising representatives of workers' and employers' organisations and other interest groups. It issues opinions on EU issues to the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, thus acting as a bridge between the EU's decision-making institutions and EU citizens.

What does the EESC do?

It gives the interest groups a formal say on EU legislative proposals. Its 3 key tasks are to:

  • ensure that EU policy and law are geared to economic and social conditions, by seeking a consensus that serves the common good
