EU proposes Mediterranean-wide search and rescue operation - Main contents

The European Commission has said EU border control agency Frontex should launch a search and rescue mission "across the Mediterranean from Cyprus to Spain" to spot and help boat migrants following the Lampedusa tragedy. EU home affairs ministers are meeting in Luxembourg Tuesday to discuss a reaction to the mass-drowning.
