€4 Million to Provide Education to Children Affected by Conflict

20/08/2013 - The European Commission has adopted a new €4 million funding decision to continue its targeted support for children affected by conflict through education in emergencies and crisis situations. All humanitarian partner organisations of the European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO i) are invited to submit proposals in response to the decision for humanitarian actions in support of conflict-affected children by 13 September 2013.

This decision was taken in the context of the 'EU Children of Peace' Initiative. As the laureate of the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize, the EU agreed to dedicate the prize money (almost €1 Million) to humanitarian projects assisting children affected by conflict, in the field of education. The European Commission provided matching funds and, in late 2012, adopted a first financial decision for €1 Million. The funds were allocated to four humanitarian projects that are currently reaching out to

28 000 conflict-affected children worldwide. The new decision shall continue and expand the initiative to reach even more children worldwide in need of emergency education.
