Directorate-General Migration and Home Affairs (HOME)

This Directorate-General is responsible for EU policies in matters regarding security, migration, border security and anti-terrorism measures.

The main tasks of this DG are:

  • internal security (combatting crime, anti-terrorism measures)
  • immigration and asylum policy (visa policy, Schengen area)
  • migration and borders (biometrics, repatriation)
  • cooperation with other countries and organisations in the field of security and migration
  • fostering European citizenship and European civic awareness

On January 1st 2015 DG Migration and Home Affairs was known as DG Home Affairs. Up until July 1st 2010 the tasks of this DG were part of DG justice, freedom and security i.
