The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is a European agency supporting the work of EU governments and EU institutions (especially the Commission) in this field. Not only is gender equality a fundamental right – progress in this area is also vital for the EU to meet its goals of economic growth and social cohesion. Although inequalities still exist, the EU has made significant progress in recent decades. This is mainly thanks to legislation and the inclusion of gender equality in all fields of public policy, as well as specific measures to advance women
Tasks of EIGE
-collecting and analysing comparable data on gender issues
-developing methodological tools, especially to help integrate gender equality in all policy areas
-facilitating the sharing of best practice and dialogue among stakeholders
-raising public awareness.
