Prof.Dr. R.G. (Ralf) Dahrendorf

Ralf Dahrendorf (1929-2009) was een vooraanstaande Duits-Britse socioloog, die vier jaar lid van de Europese Commissie was. Hij werd op 28-jarige leeftijd hoogleraar en was daarna voor de liberale FDP lid van het parlement van Baden-Württemberg en van de Duitse Bondsdag. In de Commissies-Malfatti/Mansholt was Dahrendorf commissaris voor externe betrekkingen en handel. In de Commissie-Ortoli had hij de portefeuille onderzoek, onderwijs en wetenschappen, maar na anderhalf jaar keerde hij terug naar de wetenschap. Naast hoogleraar in Londen, Konstanz en New York was hij rector van de Universiteit van Oxford. Hij kreeg in 1988 de Britse nationaliteit en was lid van het Hogerhuis.
